“Aaaah……I Warded off my day dreaming, soon after that I let it be. Now, Surely I Whisper, yes! My life must be full of meaning”(ABDINASSER GURAY).
Such a brief quotation from the writer is inspired by the words of Dr. Muhammad Afif, a lecturer of Islamic Studies in IAIN(Indonesian university)Sunan gunung Jati.He said “Make your life full of values or meaningful”.Those words are regarded as statement which had inspired and encouraged our life to be more meaningful. It requires the human being to live by intention and vision to achieve certain values that could not only benefit specific person who acts upon it but will have positive effects for the whole human kind.Life must be possessed with meanings and values. Do not even think that the life that you had spent is meaningless. There is a beauty of Arabic poetry that says “His presence existence seems to be non existence”.This means there is certain lack of quality of personality that had made no difference between the presence and absence.
Strength and enthusiasm could not be created by imagination and dreams alone. Exaggerated imagination and dreams are even very harmful. It destroys the progressive power and retreat to the positive spirit of human personality and mental values. At the same time it creates the merely dreaming person to fantasy out of the real world
In Islamic point of view, excessive dreaming, asking too much for something out of logic and wasting the wealth are forbidden as it destroys the personality and mentality of the human being. As mentioned in tradition of prophet Muhammad (PBUH) Which says:There are three things that M uslims should avoid:
1 Long Dreaming.
2 Too much Asking.
3 Wastage of wealth.
The capacity of imagination and dreaming which can create enthusiasm is that imagination which posses positive values and produce reality. Therefore, actor not only occupied by the worldly fantasy, but the actor also required to transform its fantasy into reality that could be beneficial for human civilization.
When you are day dreaming, you need power or strength. Such power would be inspiration. The power of dreaming and imagination would be more effective if complemented with action. For instant: Some one imagines having a big and beautiful house or imagines conducting a boarding school. All these imaginations would mean nothing without complimenting them with action into reality.
To have adream which is complemented with action is a spirit of effort and not harm. This shows how to posses a dream and complement it by effort into reality as vision. Vition is a process of having a certain object to be achieved by making efforts to make it exist in reality. There are so many people who had possessed a vision and there are so many people who become agreat person due to their great vision.
As done by a great eminent Muslim scholar known as Abu A’la Al-Maudoodi, who have desired to be a great Muslim Scholar since his childhood. His desires could only be made into reality by undertaking all the hard word required out of muslim scholar with full zeal of commitment and consistence. All which he accomplished was in fact not free from vision he had nursed all long, but could only be possible through deep thinking guided by the power of his imagination.
